My Travel Experience: While Walking Around in Jakarta & Contributing to Google Maps as a Local Guide

Not the matter is Exclusive or Budget, but while traveling need to walk if you want to take photos, want to see around you slowly and also, want to know a little local dialect with local food. And, I love walking.

So, this is what I am telling you about my walking experience while I was visiting Jakarta. And, the interesting addition for me was, I enroll myself as Google Maps Local Guide on my Android. It’s a fantastic app that will not let you walk smooth.

You know why, continuous remind where I am heading to, where I was yesterday and time to back home at 5 pm.

A good assistant to assist faster run out of battery. But I liked it, and liked it, as it’s reminding me, I shouldn’t stop moving around rather than sleeping long in one small city.

However, come, let’s back to Jakarta again. By the way, you might know, Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, which was called Batavia when it was under Dutch rule many years back. Indonesia becomes an independent country since August 17, 1945. It’s a city of many cultures, many races, and many religions.

Also, one of the crowded and traffic jam for hours city. Anyway, it’s a likable city for me.
Roads are busy with public transports, thousands of bikes and with millions of cars. Don’t hesitate while people are gathering by the street food, this in Jakarta.



From street-side hawkers to Sky Scrappers’ rooftop garden dining.

It was … end of January, the sky was mildly cloudy and I was sitting by the window, it was a request while checking in at the airport. And the beautiful lady allocated the seat was really as good as I was thinking of.



Clouds around, above and below me and I was crossing a dreamland of a chain of mountains of clouds.

From Jakarta Airport which name is ‘Sukarno Hatta International Airport’, I get in a Bus, by asking someone passing by.

South Jakarta – Kuningan City

The residential and commercial area with a majority of Embassy of Countries around the world is in the Kuningan area. And, really a busy area while the consulate and embassy roads look quiet with a high-security system.

 Some popular exclusive hotels and apartments are also in this wide area.
However, you will get public transports and street food stalls, as well.

Mall Ambassador

This is a popular and filled with shoppers and meetups, in Kuningan, Jakarta. A lot of shops and also dining and hangout facility. By taxi or public transport, you can reach there.

If you have an appointment in this area, you can spend time in this mall with local snacks and drinks. Or by looking around the shop collections. Sure, you can buy anything if you like to.

Lotte Shopping Avenue

This is a popular chain shopping mall, and Lotte Shopping Avenue is one of this. A lot of international clothing and fashion, cosmetics brand items you can find here.

Also, with a good car parking area.

Public transport is available just in front of the mall. Taxi, of course available.

Thamrin City

This is another popular and crowded mall that I’ve visited. To meet up with friends, shopping and hang out with friends or family, this is a nice place too in a busy city like Jakarta.

Depok with Biker

I met a couple while having coffee in a Food court in West Kuningan. The guy everyday picks and sends off his wife to the workplace near there. He is a real biker without feeling tired of a long journey.

He gave me a long ride after having coffee to Depok and send me back to the same place. We had duck rice there beside the street.

Commuter – Bogor

I traveled by “Commuter”, the rail/ train service in Jakarta. I asked some people and also at the counter, about the duration and until what the train service. And, I decided to go the end of one route and that was Bogor.

There are a few routes.

Nearly one whole day I moved around in Bogor, on foot, and by public transport.
It was something like, discover, such as the Palace in Bogor.

Dotted dears are abandoned and grazing in the wide Palace area. Old big trees by the road. I felt, good.

Commuter – Tangerang

It was another happy feel trip by Commuter to Tangerang from Station Sudirman, just next day after Bogor. I was late to start so, nearly half a day I spend in the city.

This is another one of the last station the train route.

I visited a place, which is popular for street food and busy around the year as local people told me. A big mosque and the river behind it. Colorful lights made the evening amazing on the bridge.
I was in a hurry to back to Jakarta. So, the city tour was short.

Busway – Block M - Airport

On the day, back from Jakarta to Batam, for an experience I used Busway to Block M. This is another popular place in Jakarta. A crowded business area. I visited here before too. This time, I just spend an hour waking and having coffee.

From Block M, I get in Damri bus service to the airport.

Besides settling my passport renewal process at my embassy, I spend time walking and moving around by public transport, train service in Jakarta and out of the city. Also, this time I get to know Google Maps and registered as a local guide. As contributor by uploading photos and writing descriptions.

Also, by answering questions of the App, I found, I love it as I like to travel as well.

You can do that as a hobby, also, you can travel for recreation.
